The Galaxy A-Series has been one of the most successful class of Samsung smartphones in Kenya. Not only is it budget-friendly but also the individual devices include some amazing specs that we see on the high-end selections of their competitors. If it’s Samsung galaxy A31 vs A51, for instance, they both come with an internal storage of up to 128GB. But iPhone 11 also features 128GB internal storage, yet its cost can pay for the two Galaxy phones and still leave you at least 30k.

In any case, the idea behind this article is to help you decide between galaxy A51 and a31, rather not steam brands feud. They both are great choices if you’re looking for a budget Samsung phone to celebrate the new year 2021.

Even so, the Samsung Galaxy A51 is the best, in my opinion, if your wallet allows. The four reasons that prove this include:

  • The Galaxy A51 has an advanced Exynos 9611 processor, with four 2.3 GHz high-performance cores. Thus, delivers more realistic visuals (gaming) and enriched photography than the Galaxy A31 that has a 2.0 GHz Mediatek MT6768 processor
  • The Galaxy A51 can capture video in 1080p and 4K Ultra-HD whereas the A31 only record 1080p
  • Samsung Galaxy A51 has a 6.5-inch display, which means a greater viewing experience than the A31 series (with a 6.4” screen)
  • Last but not least, the A51 has an ARM Mali-G72 MP3 graphic card, which has greater energy efficiency than the ARM-G52 MP2 on Galaxy A31. So, you can perform heavier tasks and play higher graphic games for longer times before draining the battery

Samsung Galaxy A51

The Galaxy A51 is the successor of the Samsung A50 that the company had unveiled in early 2019. It comprises the various features the engineers forgot to include on the model A60 that came mid-June of the same year.

For instance, the Samsung Galaxy A51 is available in four different variants, all featuring different internal memory. This makes the device more accessible since there’s an option to choose the specs that suits your budget. Also, the Galaxy phone has a powerful quad-camera that captures your moments in crisp, Ultra-HD quality. if needed, you can even zoom the pictures taken from a distance and still not lose important details.

Samsung Galaxy A31

Samsung introduced the Galaxy A31 in March 2020, about three months after the birth of the model A51. The handset is (supposedly) an update of the Samsung A30 that the company launched around the same time as the Galaxy A50.

When it comes to the design, though, A31 is the closest to the A51. For instance, it’s available in four different versions, all distinguished by internal memory. Also, the smartphone has four (rear) cameras and it comes with a preinstalled Android 10 operating system, just like its cousin A51.

Samsung Galaxy A31 vs A51: The 3 Main Differences between the Smartphones

  • Price and Availability

Samsung is still a high-end brand, thus the cost of owning any of their phones is a bit higher than most alternative brands. The price is likely to vary across various retailers, with some costing more than others.

Anyway, back to our subject, the Samsung A51 Price in Kenya is between Ksh 30,000 – Ksh 35,000. As was mentioned, the difference here will depend on the retailer you’ll buy from, as well as the choice of storage space. For instance, you can buy Samsung Galaxy A51 w/ 128GB, 6GB from Elyetu for Ksh 29,500. If not that, you can consider a combination of 64GB, 4GB or 128GB, 4GB, whereby you can save up to Ksh 2,000.

In case the budget at hand is not enough for either, the Samsung A31 is a great choice and you won’t need to pay as much. At Ksh 21,500, you can get an original Galaxy A31 with 64GB storage and 4GB RAM. But if you’re hoping to load your device with heavier apps or games, you can get the model with 128GB, 6GB storage for Ksh 24,500.

Ps. It’s worth to note Samsung Electronics in Kenya usually come in two different types of warranties: East Africa and Dubai. While the former is a few hundred more expensive, it’s more worthwhile since it covers 24 months instead of 12 months. Furthermore, the East Africa warranty guarantees that you can contact any authorized Samsung dealer within the region.

  • Engine and Performance

If you can remember our previous review on Samsung Galaxy S8 vs S10, we did mention the components that make up a smartphone’s engine. But Galaxy A51 and A31 have a similar operating system- Android 10, One UI 2.5. So, their only difference is the processor (Chipset), Energy Cores (CPU), and graphics card (GPU).

Well, the A51 packs a bit more muscles at the core considering it has the Exynos 9611 and Mali-G72 MP3 card. Yes, the base frequency is pretty similar to that of Galaxy A31, but the overall performance is on another level. The phone has four cores, with each having a 2.3 GHz turbo boost, whereas its counterpart has two performance cores at 2.0 GHz each. As an enthusiastic gamer, therefore, you’ll come to notice the Galaxy A51 has crispier visuals and fewer lags since it has enhanced graphics processing performance. Moreover, the photos captured with the phone’s camera are richer in details, again, thanks to the advanced image processing.

Verdict: if you’re hoping to do more with your handset than just conversation, Samsung Galaxy A51 is the best.

  • Video Quality

All the two Samsung phones have a Quad cam on the back, with three of the lens harboring similar sensors. In both devices, the primary (wide) camera is 48MP, macro camera 5MP, and depth camera 5MP. The only difference is with the ultra-wide camera, whereby A51 has a 12MP sensor while that of A31 is 8MP.

Both smartphones do have an integrated LED flash to enhance recording in low-lighted backgrounds, and HDR technology for unbalanced conditions. But since it has a far superior core and graphics, Galaxy A51 can record up to 4K Ultra-HD resolution. This includes even the selfie camera that has a 32MP lens.

On its end, Samsung A31 can only record 1080p Full HD, including the front camera (20MP).
